Cams Hall Estate Golf Club, Hampshire, played host to this year’s annual North Sails Golf Day in aid of the John Merricks Sailing Trust.
Livewire Connections’ Matthew Roberts joined a four-ball team including Colin Richardson, Captain of MY Mirage, Glen Kessells, former Captain of the recently sold MY Coral Island (now MY Coral Ocean) and Alastair Shove from Cecil Wright yachts brokers.
The team lined up against famous names in the sailing world including Olympic medallists and Volvo Ocean Race sailors. Within Matthew’s team, Colin Richardson played a lifetime best round for him with a score of 82, 11 over par. Colin earned 43 stableford points, which saw him win the individual competition and pathed the way for a victory in the team competition with a combined score of 131 points.
In total the event managed to raise over £6,000 for the John Merricks Sailing Trust which included the funds raised via the charity auction led by the trust’s ambassador Ian Walker. The Golf Day celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2016, and since it’s inauguration it has raised in excess of £250,000 for the trust which funds the grass roots of British sailing. Funds are also awarded to notable exceptional talents; this has proven to help future talent prosper with one benefactor of the trust going onto win Silver at the London 2012 Olympics whilst another won Bronze at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
Thank you to Cams Hall Estate Golf Club, North Sails, John Merricks Sailing Trust, the sponsors and all who attended to make the day such as success.
