Livewire Connections are supporting Oceans of Hope, with on board communications as the 67ft yacht undertakes the first global circumnavigation with a working crew comprising of people living with multiple sclerosis (MS).
Oceans of Hope set sail from Copenhagen, Denmark in June 2014, a journey expected to take approximately 17 months. The boat has just reached one of the major milestones when it passed through the Panama Canal and the crew had their first taste of the Pacific Ocean.
The adventure is very much a journey that aims to educate and change perceptions by showing what can be achieved by people living with a chronic disease. In addition to empowering those on board Oceans of Hope, they are running events at the stopover ports, such as taster days where they have introduced many people with MS to sailing.
Livewire Connections have supplied Inmarsat FleetBroadband SAILOR 250, with a 200MB data plan, Inmarsat C for their positioning and precise location, and Iridium stand-alone voice connection. The sailors also have Skyfile Sat C email and Skyfile mail available to them so they can send and receive emails whilst at sea.
“We provide satellite communications for many yachts that race around the Globe. Every sailor has a tale to tell, and the stories of those on board Oceans of Hope is incredible. We are proud to be involved and helping them to tell their amazing story,” commented David Walker, Sales Director for Livewire Connections.
