In the 2012/13 edition of the Vendee Globe, Alex Thomson finished as the highest placed British sailor in the race finishing on the podium, in third place. This year, Alex has gone on to beat his record, finishing in second place just 15hrs 19mins and 26secs behind race winner Armel le Cleac’h. Alex is the fastest Brit to ever sail solo around the world, in what can only be described as the most gripping finale in Vendee Globe history.
During both the 2012/3 and the 2016/17 editions of the race Alex and his HUGO BOSS IMOCA 60s, has remained connected to his team, family and friends with the support of Livewire Connections. The Inmarsat Fleet Broadband, as well as other communications systems on board have been supplied by Livewire Connections.
The communications on board enabled Alex to send live video footage and images back to race HQ throughout the race and stay connected via satellite phone.
